The Origin of Orange Day
The European colonists established the so-called "Indian Residential Schools (IRS)" system in Canada and the United States in North America.
In 1973, Phyllis Webstad, a 6-year-old Aboriginal girl, lived on the Dog Creek Aboriginal Reserve near Williams Lake in British Columbia. Despite financial constraints, her grandmother bought her a new orange shirt as an admission gift to what was known as "boarding school."
However, when Phyllis arrived at boarding school, the shirt was confiscated by the school and never returned. The experience left her feeling stripped of her identity and culture, and the orange shirt has since become a symbol of her painful memories.
Many years later in 2013,Phyllis started the "Orange Day" civil movement to commemorate the survivors of "residential schools" by sharing her story.And remind people to reflect on this heavy history. This event then swept across Canada and gained international influence.

The school organized students to have an in-depth understanding of the history of Canadian boarding schools, the origin and development of Orange Day and the historical stories behind it. This includes the unfair treatment and cultural deprivation suffered by Canadian Aboriginal children in residential schools and subsequent social awareness and reflection on this issue, allowing students to recognize the seriousness of racism and cultural discrimination and understand the importance of multicultural coexistence.

Taking advantage of the opportunity of having lunch together, international students from different countries and regions communicated and shared their respective cultural traditions and historical backgrounds. This helps students understand the differences and commonalities between different cultures and develop an attitude of tolerance and respect for multiculturalism.
