Elementary Curriculum (Kindergarten to 5th Grade)
Group 1: Kindergarten to third grade
1. Language Arts (English and Reading):Emphasis is placed on developing students' reading, writing and oral communication skills. Students will learn alphabet and phonemic awareness, develop vocabulary and comprehension, and progress to basic reading and writing skills.
2. Mathematics:This course covers numerical concepts, computational skills, geometric shapes, measurement and data analysis. Students will master basic mathematical concepts and skills through hands-on activities, problem solving, and games.
3.Science:Students are encouraged to explore and understand the natural and scientific world through observation, experimentation, and inquiry. They will learn about plants, animals, weather, seasons, and basic scientific principles.
4. Social Studies:This subject helps students learn about their community, family and culture while developing their social skills and citizenship. Students will study geography, history, social systems, and cultural diversity.
5. Physical education and health education:The curriculum emphasizes physical exercise and the development of healthy habits. Students will participate in a variety of physical activities and learn basic motor skills, cooperation skills and healthy lifestyles.
6. Art education:This includes the study of visual arts, music, drama and dance. Students will develop creativity, expression and appreciation of art.
7. Chinese language and culture:Students will learn basic Chinese vocabulary, pinyin, and written Chinese characters. By being exposed to Chinese culture, they will enhance their understanding and respect for Chinese culture.
8. Information and Communication Technology (ICT):Students will learn to use computers and other digital tools to learn and communicate. They will develop skills in information search, processing and evaluation.
9. Cross-curricular learning:Students are encouraged to make connections between different subjects and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Group 2: Grades 4 to 6
1. Language Arts (English and Reading):Further develop students' reading, writing and oral communication skills. Students will study more complex literary texts, enhance reading comprehension and analytical skills, and further develop writing and oral expression skills.
2. Mathematics:In-depth study of mathematical concepts and skills, including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, algebra, geometry, and data analysis. Students will learn mathematical methods for problem solving and develop logical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.
3.Science:Continue to explore the natural and scientific world and learn more advanced scientific concepts and principles. Students will conduct more complex experiments and observations, develop scientific thinking, and learn experimental design skills.
4. Social Studies:Learn more about history, geography, social systems, and cultural diversity. Students will engage in independent research and investigation, developing critical thinking and analytical skills.
5. Physical education and health education:Continue to develop students’ physical skills and healthy habits. Students will participate in more complex team sports and games and learn about healthy lifestyles and personal safety.
6. Art education:Further develop students’ artistic abilities and creativity. Students will learn more advanced painting, music, drama and dance techniques and have the opportunity to participate in performances and exhibitions.
7. Chinese language and culture:Continue to learn Chinese language and culture. Students will expand their vocabulary, improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, and gain a deeper understanding of all aspects of Chinese culture.
8. Information and Communication Technology (ICT):Students will acquire more advanced computer skills and apply digital tools. They will engage in activities such as information retrieval, data processing and multimedia production, developing information literacy and technical skills.
9. Cross-curricular learning:Students are encouraged to make connections across different disciplines and engage in interdisciplinary projects and research. Students will apply knowledge and skills from various disciplines to solve real-world problems.
